Jesus: A Surprise for Mary!

Friends in Faith—

We will be celebrating the third Sunday of Advent this coming Sunday, December 11. The third candle of the Advent wreath represents joy. Our scripture passage will be from Luke 1:26-38—concerning the angel Gabriel informing Mary that she'll be giving birth to the Son of God! As our Advent journey of anticipation continues, we'll spend some time sharing about some of the big surprises we've encountered in our lives, and, of course, we'll sing some beautiful Advent/Christmas hymns! We are excited that Peter Baird will be joining us to teach us a few new Christmas songs, too.

After worship, session will be meeting from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. to continue discussing our plan for how to manage the pending budget deficit.

We'll be showing "Mission: Joy Finding Happiness in Troubled Times" featuring Bishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama on Monday, December 12, starting 10 a.m. Please RSVP with Maria in the church office so we know how many to plan on for lunch.

Many of us noticed that our Fellowship Hall and the kitchen are quite slippery these days; perhaps the floor, which looks amazing, has been over-buffed. As more rain is expected over the next few days, please use caution and non-skid soled shoes inside our building.

"40 Days of Prayer" is underway! This is part of our participation in Project Regeneration—a Presbyterian Foundation project. 40 Days of Prayer promises to be a powerful faith experience. Click here for details.

NOTES & HAPPENINGS:

  • It’s not too late to submit your pledge for 2023. You can also mail your pledge card to the office. Your pledge helps our Budget and Stewardship Commission create a budget for the coming year. Thank you!

  • On December 24, Christmas Eve, our worship service will begin at 5 p.m. Immediately following our service, we'll have a gathering in our fellowship hall to sing carols together!

  • Christmas Day worship begins at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, December 25. Natalya begins playing gathering music at 10:20 a.m. We'll keep things very informal—in fact, you are encouraged to wear your pajamas or a fun Christmas outfit!  We'll take a group picture as well. Folks can also join virtually here: Facebook Live.  More details about worship can be found here.

  • On January 8, we'll be having our workshop and congregational meeting with the Presbyterian Foundation immediately following worship. This event will be four hours long, so we hope you can clear the day! A delicious lunch will be provided!

Blessings,
Jesse
