The church is governed by a board of elected elders, called "the Session." Session is moderated by the Pastor of the church, and includes a Clerk who keeps records of all the meetings. Bethany's Session has nine Elders total, eight of whom are designated to a particular commission, and one at large.

DEACONS (Lead Caregivers)

Deacons are the lead caregivers of the church, ordained to the service of congregational care and care for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures or anyone in distress (G-2.0201). Deacons carry out their service to the church under the supervision and authority of the Session (above). Bethany's current board of deacons consists of the following members:

Rev. Will Norman | Interim Pastor


Joining Bethany November 1, 2017, as transitional (aka 'interim') pastor, is Rev. Will Norman. Will is a native of Decatur, GA, a nearly lifelong Presbyterian, and a 2013 graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary. He and his wife Christin moved to California in December of 2013 for her call as the pastor of Woodland Presbyterian Church. Most recently Will served as the pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Woodland. Prior to coming to California, he served numerous PC(USA) congregations around Atlanta, GA, in youth, college, young adult, and music and arts ministries. Active in the Sacramento Presbytery, Will is a member of Committee on Ministry and is an apprentice in the Pneumatrix adaptive change program, in which Bethany is participating. He is excited to join Bethany in the process of prayerfully dreaming about the future to which God is calling the church..


DR. MAY TUAN TUCKER | Dir. of Music Ministries


May Tuan Tucker, Ph.D., was born and raised in Hong Kong. Her music training started in piano at the age of eight with the Royal School of Music. She quickly became proficient on the piano and organ and started playing regularly for church services when she was nine years old. May came to the USA after high school and pursued a bachelor's degree in vocal performance and conducting. Her subsequent graduate studies were in the areas of education administration and curriculum development. May, who joined Bethany as music director in August 2010, works as a team with Bethany's Chancel Choir accompanist Alda Turgieva.

Mere Kuru is the first face you see when at Bethany and it is always smiling! Mere (pronounced "Mary") will be happy to help you with any questions about Bethany, including worship service, building usage or our outside users.




Rick Meyers | Custodian


Rick Meyers has been keeping the buildings and grounds functional, beautiful and safe for __ years. Rick and his wife Samantha are almost always around to unlock a door, turn on the AC, or point you in the right direction.

Rev. Judy Davis | Parish Associate


Rev. Judy Davis is director of "The Gathering," and longtime member of Bethany Presbyterian Church (even though, technically, Judy is now a member of the Presbytery of Sacramento, she will always be a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Family). She holds a Bachelors degree in English and biology and was a teacher with both elementary and secondary students. For many years she worked as a laboratory scientist for the University of California Davis Medical Center. After receiving a Master of Divinity/MA from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA, she began leading creative writing workshops, teaching, and serving as a spiritual director. She is a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains. In April 2013 she founded "The Gathering," a Sacramento-based storytelling and creative arts based community. She lives in Sacramento with her husband with whom she has one son and two grandchildren. Judy was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 2015.
