Busy Time of Year

Friends in Faith,

It is a busy time of year, in the life of our country as well as in the life of our church.

Be sure to make your voice heard this coming Tuesday, Election Day!

This coming Sunday (November 1) Daylight savings time ends—be sure to “fall back” one hour on Saturday night so that you won’t be early for our worship services!

And I hope you all find some way to still get a lot of candy this Halloween in spite of the pandemic!

This Sunday, November 1, is also All Saints Day. In the past, we’ve set up “memorial tables” in the social hall for everyone to see photos and mementos of departed family and friends. This year, due to COVID-19, we are inviting folks to contribute to Bethany’s “wall of memories” that will be posted on our website. Here are details about how to submit photos.

You are also invited to submit the names of loved ones who have passed away since October 2019. Those names will be read during the Facebook Live worship service this Sunday. Names should be received in the church office by 12 noon on Friday, October 30.  You can send in names by clicking here.

In addition, we will be celebrating communion this Sunday at both our 10:30 a.m. Facebook Live service as well as at our 11:10 a.m. Zoom service. Please be sure to have some bread and wine/juice on hand.

It came to my attention that several members had difficulty joining our Zoom worship services over the past two weeks because of a problematic link on our website.. The error has been fixed. The links for all of our virtual worship services and meetings are always available here..

Fifteen participants enjoyed our first discussion of Ibram Kendi’s book How to be an Antiracist on October 20th. Our next session is on Tuesday, November 17th at 7 p.m. If you would like to join us, please contact Donna Tabaie and she’ll be in touch with further information.

Our Tuesday Zoom Bible study group, which meets at 11 a.m., has begun a new program—“Into the Light: Finding Hope Through Prayers of Lament”—which has already led to some very meaningful sharing. We’ll be using this curriculum for the next few months and all are welcome to join us whenever they can.  Purchasing our study book is not necessary to participate, but if you’d like a copy of this excellent resource, you can find one here.

SSIP will be holding its annual “Thanksgiving Turkey Give Away” on Saturday, November 21st from 9 a.m-11 a.m. They are seeking volunteers, so if you’d like to help, please contact: info@ssipfoodcloset.org

Blessings on all,
Jesse
