What's Happening

We were pleased to again welcome Elder Pat Terry to the pulpit yesterday. Next Sunday (Feb. 8) Rev. Elias Burgos will be preaching.

TODAY—Monday, Feb. 2—not only will the groundhog signal whether or not we are in store for an early spring … we will have a special session of the “Monday Group” starting 10 a.m. at church. Leader Jackie Sneed will take a detour from the regularly scheduled pre-Lenten topic to head a discussion drawn from the acclaimed Rev. Rowan Williams book “Being Disciples.” This deviation from the norm was spurred by requests expressed at the Monday Group’s last gathering. Come for a time of learning and fellowship. All are invited.

TUESDAY, Feb. 3—The Movie Group will meet in Farrand Hall to view episodes 3 & 4 of the “Downton Abbey” TV series (season 2). Come at 10 for social time; the show starts at 10:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served, thanks to Nga Chau and Manh Ong!

Wednesday, February 4, is our 14th “Coffee & Conversation” … happening each Wednesday 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Social Hall! Enjoy free coffee and pastries. It’s informal; drop in any time. Come by yourself or bring a friend. Questions? Want to help? See Mark Strack. More details here.

Wednesday, Feb. 11, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. is our next LUNCH & LEARN at Bethany. Enjoy a craft project and a delicious meal while we discover more about the Scottish background of the Presbyterian Church! $5/person. Sign up by today (Feb. 2) as reservations are limited. Made possible by an Older Adult Ministries Grant from our Presbytery. Click for more details and to download the reservation form.

STARTING Monday, Feb. 9—Join in a spirited discussion series on the challenges & rewards of getting older. This 5-part series—“God Isn’t Finished With Me Yet”—will help us discover the graces of later life. We’ll even cover down-sizing! Materials will be provided. Meet 10 a.m. every other Monday in the church library; come at 9:30 for refreshments. The series will be led by Cathy Sapunor. Here are more details.

SATURDAY, Feb. 14—For the fourth year, we’ll celebrate “Palentine’s Day.” What is Palentine’s Day? Well, if Valentine’s Day is for sweethearts, Palentine’s Day is a celebration of friendship! we’ll again gather 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Venus Taproom (1188-35th Avenue, off South Land Park Drive). Drop in with your best friend, partner, parent, etc., for beverages and pastries! More info here. All are invited. Free!

MANY THANKS to Nga Chau, Kathryn Boyd, Cathy Sapunor & Mark Strack for their leadership at last Saturday’s “memorial ministry.” Bethany occasionally serves as host church for Evergreen Mortuary’s funerals. The families and friends appreciate the beauty and serenity of our sanctuary and the assistance we are able to provide. If you would like to be a volunteer at one of our upcoming memorial ministry events, please see Debbie Leibrock.

This is your invitation to make a financial pledge to Bethany for 2026. “Moving Forward With God: Count Me In!” is the theme, signifying that each of us is an active participant in the work of the lord here in our community. Please prayerfully consider how you may give of your time, talent and treasure in the coming year.
