Today’s service—the third Sunday in Advent—was led by the Rev. Jesse Larson. The Advent wreath, lit by Cherie Upchurch and Paul and Janice Douglas, featured the addition of the Candle of Joy to the two prior candles of Advent: the Candle of Hope and the Candle of Peace.
The scripture reading was Philippians 1: 3-11.
Saxophonist John Doolittle joined Bethany pianist Natalya Amelchenko in presenting several lively musical arrangements. A moving and inspiring liturgical dance was performed by Vickie McNamee Owens.
During the service three children were baptized: Steven Bertsch, Alexander Medina and Jaxon Medina. Assisting Rev. Larson with the baptisms was elder Barbara Greene.
Hymns sung by the congregation and accompanied by Natalya Amelchenko included:
The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came
O Little Town of Bethlehem
Lo, How a Rose E’re Blooming
Due to today’s camera’s positioning nearer to the center of the sanctuary, you’ll hear lots of laughing, chatting (and kids vocalizing)—all signs of a vital and engaged congregation!
