Pentecost Sunday — the “Birthday” of the Church — Is Here

May 19, 2021

Friends in Faith,

I had a wonderful vacation, but it's also good to be home! I wanted to extend a big thanks to Office Manager Maria Mar for keeping things running smoothly in the office, as well as a big thanks to Rev. Judy Davis and Rev. Janice Kamikawa for leading a beautiful service on Mother's Day. It's a joy to have so many people who share their gifts in our community.

This coming Sunday, May 23, is Pentecost! We'll be celebrating the blessed gift of the mysterious and powerful Holy Spirit, and the many ways that it continues to blow among God's people in all times and places—offering us all sorts of amazing opportunities in our work of love, reconciliation, and unity. Our scripture lesson will be Acts 2:1-24. In honor of Pentecost, wear something red.

Please join us this Sunday for worship and bring a friend or two! After all, we want to share the good news of Jesus Christ and grow our churches in the work of love. Gathering music begins at 10:20 a.m. in Bethany's Social Hall. There are several options for how to share in worship with us:

  • In-person, in our Social Hall.

  • In-person, from your car. We broadcast our service via low-frequency radio channel 94.9 (available only as far as the church parking lot).

  • From your home, on Facebook Live. Hint: if you miss the actual service, you can watch it on Facebook at any time, or on our website.

However you choose to worship with us, we're glad to have you!  You can also check out Bethany's in-person safety precautions here.

Even though things are opening up, we still enjoy checking in with one another via Zoom on Wednesday mornings at 11 a.m. Join us here!

If you have prayers that you would like to share with our community, please contact me or Maria. Also, be sure to indicate if you'd like your prayer to be shared, or if you'd like it to be held in confidentiality.

May we trust that God hears all of our prayers, and in Christ, we find healing, wholeness, and new beginnings. No matter what comes our way, all roads lead to Jesus—thanks be to God!

Blessings to all,

Jesse
