What's Happening

We welcomed Elder Jim Guida to the pulpit at yesterday’s worship service. In addition to presenting a children’s message, he delivered a sermon entitled “Are We Entranced by the Entrance?” based on John 14:1-7. We had a formal in absentia blessing of our graduates and welcomed Steve Leibrock as a new member of the congregation. (See below.)

This coming Sunday (June 21), Rev. Jack McNary will preach. Laura Anderson will be with us June 28.

At yesterday’s worship service, Steve Leibrock—flanked by family—was formally welcomed as a new member of the Bethany congregation. Officiating at the occasion was Rev. David Antonson. A congratulatory cake was served in Steve’s honor following the service. Welcome, Steve!

On behalf of Bethany, Elder Barbara Greene introduced (in absentia) those in our extended church family who have recently graduated. The photo of each young person was displayed and Barbara led the congregation in a prayer of blessing. Graduates recognized were: Becky Kingsbury, receiving a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Hawaii Pacific University … Kylie Casey, awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University … and Stirlin Casey, graduate of Morrison High School in Oklahoma. Congrats, grads!

TODAY (MONDAY, June 15)—our bible study meets 9:30-11 a.m. at the church. This is the next-to-last gathering in this series. All are welcome, and you don’t need to have attended any of the prior sessions as each is a stand-alone lesson/discussion. Just show up! Led by Cathy Sapunor.. More details are here.

Bethany’s Movie Group continues its break this week. Some good films are coming this summer, so stay tuned for details!

WEDNESDAY, June 17—We will continue to enjoy “Coffee & Conversation” in the church Social Hall, 8:30-10:30 a.m. Enjoy free coffee and donuts This is the perfect excuse to get out of the house for a bit and hang with others. It’s informal; drop in any time. Come by yourself or bring a friend. Thank you, Mark Strack, for hosting this weekly event!

WEDNESDAY, June 17, 10-11 a.m.—All are welcome at this month’s Multi-Faith Prayer Vigil happening outside the John Moss Federal Building, 650 Capitol Mall. Gather in prayer, song and reflection as we stand with religious leaders from throughout the area in supporting our immigrant neighbors and their families. You will see familiar faces from other churches. Sponsored by SacACT (Sacramento Area Congregations Together).

COMING THURSDAY, June 25—our food closet volunteer morning. We are switching this month from Monday to Thursday. The sign-up sheet is on the Social Hall bulletin board. Or e-mail if you are interested! Please volunteer (8:30-11:45 a.m.), as this is a ministry that greatly benefits our community and it was started by people in our own congregation! Help the Jesus-inspired tradition of serving others continue.

Could you arrive at church some Sundays at 10 a.m.? We are really in need of a few helping hands to do some simple tasks such as putting out the offering plates and opening the sanctuary doors. See Cathy Sapunor or just pick a Sunday on the sign-up sheet near the front of the sanctuary!

This is your invitation to make a financial pledge to Bethany for 2026. “Moving Forward With God: Count Me In!” is the theme, signifying that each of us is an active participant in the work of the lord here in our community. Please prayerfully consider how you may give of your time, talent and treasure in the coming year. Contact the church office to ask for a pledge form or download one here.
