We were pleased to again welcome Rev. Elias Burgos to the pulpit yesterday, Palm Sunday. His message—“Jesus Misunderstood”—was based on Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29, Philippians 2:5–11 and Matthew 21:1–11. Kathy Frank served as liturgist and Sylvia Alamillo presented a very moving rendition of “Via Dolorosa” (“the Way of Sorrow”), which told of Jesus’s journey to the cross. Everyone waved palm branches in memory of the historic day more than 2,000 years ago when Jesus entered Jerusalem. You can read more about the service here.
THIS COMING SUNDAY (APRIL 5) is Easter Sunday, which includes an indoor “Easter egg scramble” for the kids during the service. We’ll also have delicious refreshments in the social hall after the service. Please bring family & friends to share in this special time of celebrating new life. Jim Guida will preach & communion will be served. We have set a goal of doubling our monthly collection for the Food Closet; bring items to help fill our TWO baskets!
TODAY—Monday, March 30—Bethany has pledged to fill 5 volunteer spots at the SSIP Food Closet located at Bethany. This is something we do every month that has a “fifth Monday.” Many thanks to today’s volunteers Cindy Alei, Kathy Kingsbury, Manh Ong, Cathy Sapunor & Tom Uhrhammer!
WEDNESDAY, April 1—No fooling … it’s “Coffee & Conversation” 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Social Hall! Enjoy free coffee & pastries. It’s informal; drop in any time. Come by yourself or bring a friend. Want to help? See Mark Strack.. More details here.
SATURDAY, April 4—We’ll be decorating & “hiding” Easter eggs in the sanctuary from 10-11 a.m. Please use the gated entrance from the parking lot. We need at least 4 people to help! Can you? Nothing strenuous is required!
Reaching Out Ministry Was Held Last Saturday
Many thanks to Susan Just & Faith Presbyterian Church volunteers for staffing last Saturday’s “Reaching Out” ministry at Bethany, providing services for those in need. More than 100 people attended. The purpose of “Reaching Out” is to build a sense of community and provide free items such as clothing, toiletries, basic essential items, books and pet foods. Lunch is provided. Everything is free. This is not a focused homeless outreach; however, several unhomed folks do attend. See Susan if you would like to help at the next event!
Bethany now has available special Easter invitation cards. Pick a few up on Palm Sunday. To have some cards delivered to your home (so you can mail them out), send an e-mail. OR you can CLICK HERE TO PRINT a sheet of small flyers at home. Just cut on the trim lines and give them to friends, family and neighbors!
FRIDAY, April 10 is the joint memorial service for Ralph & Fran Congdon. Fran passed away Feb. 13, 2021; Ralph on Jan. 19, 2026. The service starts at 10:30 a.m. here at Bethany; a reception follows. Please join us in honoring these cherished members of our congregation. Click here for more details.
Last wee’s Movie Group outing was to see “Project Hail Mary,” which told the story of self=sacrifice and the using of one’s God-given talents to help others. It was well-received and decidedly a good film for Lent and Holy Week! New movies are announced here as they are scheduled. All are welcome to participate … bring friends!
This is your invitation to make a financial pledge to Bethany for 2026. “Moving Forward With God: Count Me In!” is the theme, signifying that each of us is an active participant in the work of the lord here in our community. Please prayerfully consider how you may give of your time, talent and treasure in the coming year. Contact the church office to ask for a pledge form or download one here.
