The Church Moves in 1955

Bethany moved from its original location in Oak Park to 24th Street on October 3, 1955. The building had to be relocated because of Highway 99 construction. Hundreds of people lined up to watch the building go by as it was towed on a trailer. The steeple was removed for the ride, and it was relocated from the sanctuary to the social hall roof due to the height restrictions of the new neighborhood—being adjacent to what was then Sacramento’s only commercial airport.
