At today’s worship service—the first Sunday in Advent—Rev. Jesse Larson read Luke 21:25-36. He challenged all (in the words of angels) “to not be afraid” of what life holds and to be totally present, awake and ready. He said, “In Advent we celebrate Christ being born into the world, and we also celebrate the promise of His return. Advent calls us into a continuing relationship with Christ who meets us at all times: past, future and present.”
The first candle of Advent—the Candle of Hope—was lit.
Pianist Natalya Amelchenko presented background music as well as accompanying hymns. Hymns were led by the song team comprised of Sylvia Alamillo, Kathy Frank and Barbara Greene. Mary Harbison served as liturgist. Hymns included:
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent
Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus
Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates
