Q: What has a bigger impact than a trio of 300-pound linebackers bearing down on a quarterback?
A: You, when you team up to fight hunger!
On Super Bowl Sunday—February 11—you can make a difference in the lives of those who don’t have enough to eat. At Bethany, we’re doing several things that day. Even if you can’t attend the worship service, you can still participate from home in the 2024 “Souper Bowl of Caring.”
10:30 a.m. worship service—we’ll be saying prayers for those suffering from food insufficiency … and prayers for those whose efforts keep the South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership Food Closet (located at Bethany) going each month.
ALSO during the service—we’ll be taking a collection of canned and packaged goods for the Food Closet.
11:30 a.m.—we’re enjoying an informal soup lunch featuring albondigas (a very mild meatball soup) and cornbread; the meal is free but we’ll have an empty bowl ready for everyone to toss in their spare change to benefit the Food Closet. We’ll be taking Super Bowl outcome guesses … you could be a winner!
Later that day … are you having a Super Bowl party? Or going to one?
Ask guests to bring non-perishables for the Food Closet.
Get an empty soup pot ready for people to throw in a nickel, dime, quarter, etc., every time a specific game action occurs. We’ve all heard of “drinking games.” Well, here’s your safe, sober and socially redeeming PLINKING game (as in coins plinking into a container).
And here’s the easiest way of all to support the Souper Bowl of Caring: give online! Share this QR code with friends and ask them to make a donation. It’s speedy and even the smallest amount goes a long way to helping feed the thousands who rely on the SSIP Food Closet.
