Being Discussed: “The Rooster Wound” by David Bachelor

The Monday morning discussion group—an ever-expanding gathering open to everyone—will meet April 1 for an initial discussion of the book "The Rooster Wound" by Rev. Dr. David Bachelor. David is the son of Diana Bachelor and the late Ernie Bachelor, longtime members of Bethany. The gathering starts at 10 a.m., followed by a free lunch.

The discussion will conclude Monday, April 15, at 10 a.m., again followed by a complimentary lunch.

Based on the Apostle Peter's denial of Christ, the "rooster wound" happens when we are unfaithful to the expectations that we have for ourselves. Bachelor explores how this happened … as a consequence of the May 2022 mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas … among law enforcement and school officials and the community. He talks about the plight of the Apostle Peter and what the church can do to help heal in the aftermath of a tragedy.

About the author:

Rev. Dr. David Bachelor was ordained in York, England in 1997 and served five rural churches in the county of Somerset. Since returning to the U.S. he has served churches in New Mexico, Colorado and south Texas. He grew up in Sacramento, California, where he attended Bethany Presbyterian Church with parents Ernie and Diana Bachelor.

God has also called him to be a chaplain in the Navy Reserves. As a chaplain, he has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. After Afghanistan, he started Warrior Wash Ministry based on his dissertation. Warrior Wash is a retreat ministry providing a Christian solution to post-traumatic stress. Warrior Wash is also a resource for churches to start veterans’ ministries. He is the author of four other books: Death-Shadow: Christianity and Post-traumatic Stress; Sacraments of War: The Sword and the Warrior Wash; Day Eight: Walking after the Warrior Wash; and MMXX: A Year Like No Other.
