From Rev. Dr. Mary Westphall, transitonal presbyter, comes a special invitation:
As members of Stockton and Sacramento Presbyteries, a vital part of the body of Christ, you are invited to a Prayer Service for Healing and Hope, this Sunday evening, January 17, at 5 p.m. (with meditative music starting at 4:50 p.m.). Through music, scripture, stillness and prayer led by Presbytery leaders, this 30-minute service will unite us as we earnestly place ourselves and our nation in God’s safe keeping.
The events that took place at our nation’s Capitol January 6th have reverberated throughout our nation, communities and congregations. To see such violence unfold was horrifying and has left many people shaken, angered, fearful, and has further divided our nation. We look to the days ahead and cannot help but feel uncertain and fearful about the possibility of more upheaval. Into such pain and chaos, we as people of faith are called to draw near to our Creator, reclaim the promises of scripture, cry out in lament and repentance, open ourselves to healing and hope, recommit to the holy work of bringing God’s light, love and justice where it is needed most.
Please join your siblings in faith across the Presbyteries, across our different theological and political viewpoints, across all that might divide us, and bear witness to the oneness we have in Jesus Christ, our Rock and Redeemer. To join, please register in advance at this link. After registering, you will receive a confirmation e-mail containing information about joining the meeting.
