Diá de los Tres Reyes Magos (Three Kings Day) returned to Bethany Sunday, Jan. 9. Rev. Jesse Larson led the service, which focused on the scripture passage Matthew 2: 1-23. The morning began with a procession by Bethany’s very own “three wise men” (Paul Douglas, Ron Carlson and Tom Uhrhammer), led by Alex Medina as star-bearer.
This day—called Epiphany—celebrated the visit by the magi (the three kings, or wise men) bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh for the newborn Jesus.
Due to pandemic-related restrictions, Bethany did not serve the traditional rosca de reyes (three kings cake) … but to celebrate the spiring of giving, small presents were distributed to every attendee during the service.
Pianist Natalya Amelchenko presented several arrangements and accompanied the singing of hymns.
