World Communion Sunday is celebrated the first Sunday of October. This festive and insightful day—which has its origins in the Presbyterian Church—is now observed by churches of many denominations throughout the world.
Whether or not you attend church in person, we can all still gather around the “virtual table” that Christ invites us to share. If you are at home, tune in to the the October 3 Facebook livecast service around 10:20 a.m. and have ready a bit of bread and a beverage so you can join in this celebration of new life, hope and promise.
The Presbyterian Church USA Peace & Global Witness Offering will be taken this day.
Do you have international-themed items? Consider bringing them to display on the worship table on World Communion Sunday. Click here to see photos from last year’s World Communion Sunday worship service.
The following lyrics by singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer capture the essence of World Communion Sunday—that there is room at the table for ALL of God’s creation.
No matter who you are, no matter where you're from
There is room at the table for everyone
Here and now we can be, the beloved community,
There is room at the table for everyone
There is room for us all
And no gift is too small
There is room at the table for everyone
There's enough if we share
Come on pull up a chair
There room at the table for everyone
