World Communion Sunday is celebrated the first Sunday of October. This festive and insightful day—which has its origins in the Presbyterian Church—is now observed by churches of many denominations throughout the world.

While we won’t be able to worship in person this year, we can still gather around the “virtual table” that Christ invites us to share. During the October 4th Facebook livecast service (10:30 a.m.) and/or at the Zoom worship service that follows (11:10 a.m.), have ready a bit of bread and a beverage so you can join in this celebration of new life, hope and promise.

At the Zoom service, please be ready with a photo to share of one of your favorite places on Earth. It can be a place you have visited before, or a place you long to see.

The following lyrics by singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer capture the essence of World Communion Sunday—that there is room at the table for ALL of God’s creation.

No matter who you are, no matter where you're from

There is room at the table for everyone

Here and now we can be, the beloved community,

There is room at the table for everyone

There is room for us all

And no gift is too small

There is room at the table for everyone

There's enough if we share

Come on pull up a chair

There room at the table for everyone
