Come and serve warm beverages and smiles to those waiting in the long line at the South Sacramento Interfaith Parish Food Closet Saturday, November 17. Families will be standing in the cold quite a while, waiting for their Thanksgiving turkeys and groceries at the food closet, which is housed at Bethany Church.
Show up any time between 7-9 a.m. and we will have a volunteer job for you, whether it’s stirring cocoa on the stove or serving cookies to food closet clients. All ages are welcome; this is an excellent introduction to community service for young people. Kids as young as age four have helped in the past.
Wear comfortable shoes and layers because you will be going in and out of the building. Check in at the church kitchen, which is off the south parking lot.
Donations of instant hot cocoa mix, paper (not Styrofoam) “hot” cups, napkins, and cookies, brownies, crackers, etc. for us to serve will be greatly appreciated. You may bring those to the church kitchen; please label them “cocoa ministry.” The specially decorated “cocoa can” will be passed around each Sunday morning between now and then; your spare change will help us purchase supplies!
