Helping Homeless Families

Family Promise of Sacramentofamily promise family

Throughout the year, Bethany members and friends help local congregations serve as “home” to mothers, fathers and children — enabling them to stay together at nights (instead of being separated in a traditional shelter) and helping families retain a sense of stability during difficult times. Families are screened participants in the nonprofit Family Promise program and working toward transitioning to employment and independent housing.

You can volunteer to prepare a portion of a dinner, serve meals or assist with other simple tasks during one of the weeks that families are staying at a local congregation. We always need help setting up beds and supplies at the beginning of the week, and putting things away when it is time for families to move to their next host church. There’s also laundering of sheets and pillowcases that can be done at home.
