Becoming a Member

Membership in the Church of Jesus Christ is a joy and a privilege. It is also a commitment to participate in Christ’s mission. A faithful member bears witness to God’s love and grace and promises to be involved responsibly in the ministry of Christ’s Church. Individuals become members of Bethany Presbyterian Church in three ways:

Baptism & Confirmation

For adults who have never been a member of a Christian church, BAPTISM is the entryway into church membership. Infants are also baptized as a sign and seal of God's love for us, even before we are able to love God. However, baptized children do not join the church until they have completed Confirmation, and can personally confirm their baptismal vows.

Reaffirmation of Faith

For baptized adults who are not currently members of another Christian church, a reaffirmation of faith is the required for membership in the church. This is accomplished through a series of questions asked and answered with the Session (board) of Bethany Presbyterian Church, and in worship, with the whole congregation present.

Transfer Church Membership

For people who would like to transfer their church membership from another Christian congregation to Bethany Presbyterian, a letter of transfer can be sent from your current church of membership to the office at Bethany, and both congregations will update their records accordingly. Member transfers are welcomed into membership during Sunday worship.
